our roots

“WE GROW FOOD USING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES. WE AIM TO REDUCE FOOD MILAGE, OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT AND DON’T USE HARMFUL CHEMICALS. WE BELIEVE THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO GROW AND SUPPORT HEALTHY COMMUNITIES.”
– MICHELE

Farm & Co Kingscliff has been an avocado farm for thirty years and was purchased in 2002 by the current owners Michele Stephens and her partner Ian Kettle. While they are not organically certified, their whole food and farming philosophy strictly follow only organic farming practices.

“AFTER A CAREER IN HEALTH, I REALISED THAT OUR FOUNDATION FOR GOOD HEALTH BEGINS IN OUR FARMING SYSTEMS- FROM THE SOIL UP.”
– MICHELE

Michele learnt how to grow vegetables from her dad and nana. She grew up in Cooma where school friends taught her how to manage cattle, horses, sheep, and pigs. Later training to become a Paediatric Nurse with a Bachelor of Health Science, whilst raising a family of four children. Concurrently studying Biological and Organic Farming. Michele is passionate about sustainable farm practices, healthy living, and the importance of connecting with the land and our local environment.

our farminG PHILOSOPHY

We believe in creating and nurturing healthy soils, that ultimately provides the building block for healthy and delicious produce. Organics is about health management and disease prevention – with no synthetic chemicals. Organic means farming in a way which cares for the environment, without relying upon synthetic chemicals and other unnatural interventionist approaches. Hence, our organic farms utilises the best of both traditional agriculture and modern techniques, using nature and natural processes as its foundation. Rather than using synthetic pesticides to kill pests, we try and prevent pests by planting a diverse range of crops, by rotating crops, using natural biological and environmentally friendly inputs, and conserving natural ecosystems. This means no artificial pesticides, no synthetic herbicides, no hormones which compromise our healthy bodies as well as our healthy farm. With many safe and proven forms of farming already available, we believes it is important to allow Mother Nature to provide us food the way nature intended.
